According to UNHCR, with over 70 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, this is the largest wave of refugees, IDPs and asylum seekers since WWII. Today, for the World Refugee Day we are pleased to present our recently-completed Chaarani stairs project, a @unhabitat funded public space program located in Qobbe, a low-income neighbourhood in Tripoli, Lebanon. Designed by EVA Studio and implemented by @solidaritesinternational, the project consists of the rehabilitation of public stairs that run through the neighbourhood and connect the area to the old network of souks. The project takes on different challenges: from urban displacement and social integration between the host Lebanese community and Syrian refugees (who in this neighbourhood make up approximately 15% of the population) to post-conflict recovery. The pavement is made out of pigmented encaustic cement tiles, an old technique well developed in Lebanon. 10 years ago today Haiti was hit by a devastating 7.0 earthquake, killing 220,000 people and leaving over 1.5 million displaced, changing the country forever. Some progresses were made, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Since we got there to assist during the reconstruction in 2011, Haiti became to us a second home, a country that we love, and a place where our first projects were implemented, and where we hope to continue working in the years to come. In the 📷 Canaan, an informal neighbourhood near Port-au-Prince, born as a settlement for internally displaced people. Today is a city of 300,000 inhabitants. #haitiearthquake #haiti
